Summer counting syllable! Clap, talk like a robot, hum, hop, tap your foot, and tapping sticks are all amazing method to counting syllables.
Phonemic awareness is a group of skills – that include counting the number of syllables in a word.
It’s the ability to hear, notice, and think about the individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words and syllables.
This syllable file is packed with lots of ideas to help your students learn to count syllables while having fun.
What’s included:
1. Clip-it cards – There are 3 different styles to use. Kids holding numbers, number words, and the number of claps in the word. Use clothes pin to put on the correct number or have your students place a small manipulative on the correct number of syllables.
2. Manipulative cards - Have your students put any small manipulative on the correct number of syllables.
All the cards are fun ways to practice syllable counting and increase language skills.
3. Summer syllable spinning – A fun game for your students to play.
Use a paperclip for the spinner and hold it down with a pencil. Flick the paperclip, then place a small manipulative on a summer picture with the same number of syllables. Continue playing until the sheet is covered.
4. Sloth talk game and visual aid flashcards - pick a card - have your students say one syllable - pause - say the next syllable - pause... continue until the work is complete. Then say the word and how many syllables are in the word.
5. Syllable pyramid dice and small visual aid flashcards – Have you students pick a cards and roll the dice. Say the animals name using the method on the dice. Then say how many syllables are in the word.
6. There are lots of fun and educational posters to help your students learn the different methods of practicing syllable counting.
