Walk for autism

We are going to do the walk for autism next month and I am so excited about it!!  We are walking for the Autism Society.

Kindergarten work

When I went to kindergarten we colored and napped! My son has started addition! And the teacher said he is doing great!!

No school today

Adam didn't go to school today, but we have been very busy!!!! He cleaned his room and helped clean the living room. Then he played wii for a while and he is very good!!! I have never seen anyone play as well as him. Then it was art time, so he drew the cutest picture of out background. And I love it :)

Unconditionally loved

I have never been loved so unconditionally before my little Adam came into my life. Someone with autism loves me and I could not be happier ♥ He is pure love and so sweet.

Autism and school

Since finding out my son is autistic at the end of August, our lives have changed so much.  And I feel it has been for the better.  Because of the abuse he recieved in preschools, he was so afraid of school and teachers.  The first week was pure hell for everyone.  I went in the school and met with the teachers, principal, guidance counselor, speech teacher and took my sister.  We sat and talked about what classes Adam would be taking and how much he would do in the regular classroom.  Because I knew he would be scared and I was overwhelmed with the fear of him being abused once again.  I told them they could only put him in one regular class.  I picked math, knowing it would be the easiest for him.  He is very good in math.

 Then we talked about brining Adam to the school to meet everyone before he started.  We sat in the car for atleast an hour trying to get him out of the car and walk into the school.  He threw the biggest fit I have ever seen.  He was so scared and kept saying don't let them hurt me, please no.  I held back the tears. His teachers and the principal came out to meet and talk with him.  Adam calmed down a little and talked, but still to scared to walk into the school.  My husband carried him in and we told him how much he was going to love it and his teachers were the best.  (all the while praying I wasn't lieing to the child and knowing I would home school him in a minute, if anything went wrong.) 

We got to the autistic classroom and he looked around, jumped on the trampoline, swang in the coolest swing, and sat at his desk.  He is speech delayed but talked with his teacher.  Then he walked by himself to his regular classroom.  He walked around it, sat in his sit and smiled.  The teacher was telling him about the room and he looked at the chalkboard and read off the ABCs and talked about the pictures on the walls.  The teachers were all impressed with how smart he was. Before we left the principal knelt down, took Adam's hands in hers and looked him right in the eyes and told him how happy she that he was coming to school and that he would love it. 

Monday rolled around and getting him ready and into the car was so challenging.  When we got to the school, I cannot remember how long it took to get him out of the car, but Matt carried him in and half way down the hall.  Matt had to put him down because his arms were hurting.  Adam laid down on the floor and threw a fit.  This is the first fit that Adam threw that no one looked at him weird or acting like he was strange, adults or the other students.  They were so used to autistic children being in the school that it didn't affect them.  I sighed with relief and knew it would be ok.  The principal and autistic teacher were with us and they walked him down the hall the rest of the way.  I didn't cry until he was in the room and the rest of the afternoon I was a mess.  I couldn't wait until it was time to pick him up and see his facial expression.  That was the easiest way for me to know how his day was, because he couldn't tell me.

The rest of the week went just as crappy getting him into his classroom.  We talked about taking him into the door next to the classroom and the principal said yes.  Wow, talk about easier!! His speech teacher met us at the door every morning and he talked to the classroom with her. He still wasn't walking right in for another couple weeks, but you could tell he liked school.  He was always smiling when I picked him up and talking about different things they did throughout the day.

Now half of the school year is gone and I thank God every day that we made the right choose for him.  He loves school and his teachers.  He has friends and talks so much more now.  He still has his days that he doesn't want to go to school and has bad days there, but there are more good days.

He is in a lot of regular classes now.  He enjoys music, the library, reading time, math and coloring.  His report cards are awesome and all of the work he brings home is so good.  He is starting to read and likes to practice saying his new sight words.

What a difference in him.  What a difference in having the best teachers, speech teacher, principal and classmates. 

I am sure he will be having days he just doesn't want to do what is asked or cooperate, but I know he will be having a lot of awesome days.  And seeing him smile and happy is enough for me.

Christmas!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and joyous christmas!  I know my family had the best christmas - full of love, family, stories, and of course presents.  My husband and I gave each other lists of what we wanted and followed them to a tee.  So, each of us got what we wanted/needed this year.  This is the first year we did a list and knew what we where going to recieve.  I am wondering..... how many couples do the list, still surprise each other, or do not exchange gifts at all?? 

As I talked with some of my friends, I was surprised at how many do not exchange with their husbands.  I love giving gifts and watching people open them.  But I also like recieving gifts and see what the person gets for me, especially from my husband.  We have such fun buying for each other and seeing what we will get.  This year we did buy one for each other that we didn't know about and it was of course my favorite!

Thanksgiving dinner!

This is the first year that my husband and I will be making the whole dinner for all of our family.  I always have it here, but my mom used to do the turkey and stuffing.  This year we are doing it.  I am looking for recipes for both making the turkey and making stuffing.  Only thing is the stuffing cannot have celery or sage in it.  I have family members who are allergic to both ingredients.  Thanks!!

Holidays

I am so excited about the holidays coming up!!!!  I love Thanksgiving and Christmas, and love teaching my son the meaning.  This will be the first year that he is excited and telling us what it is he wants.  I am truely thankful for his teachers!!  His speech has come a long way in just a few months.  He loves to color now and has made so many turkeys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I am so happy he loves kindergarten!

Autism

We took Adam to a Children's hospital on July 27th for an evaluation. The appt went good, we went back and began talking about all of Adam's characteristics and different things he likes to do. She asked a lot of questions and at the end she said there are a lot of red flags pointing to autism. She set up another appt for more screening and time for her to play and interact with Adam. She said she cannot tell us anything until the next visit, which is August 25. Adam did very good all day, but at first was confused why we were there. during all of the talking my sister and him sat and played with zoo animals and trains. He was very patience through it all. I really felt weird sitting there pointing out a 6 year olds problems, like I was pickinng on him but I know it all will help him in the end.... She is going to send me a report from the visit and I should get it in two weeks.

Homeschooling Adam!

We are going to home school Adam this fall, he will be in kindergarten.  Since we are new to homeschooling, any and all advise is appreciated!!  My husband and I both will be teaching him and we are excited :)  We would like to get him involved in extra activites and have been thinking about karate.

busy day of fun!

Today was full of adventure.  My husband made me shelves to put up in my bedroom for my office area.  And I love it!!!  I am so busy organizing and putting things in there new place, I am excited :) 

Then this evening we went to my sister in laws house for a cookout and Adam found another kid to hang with and had fun the whole night.  I love seeing him happy and enjoying life.  He is such a wonderful child and full of surprises.  He is a joy to have and I thank God every day for letting me be Adam's mom!

So thankful fo Spring!

I love Spring so much and I am so thankful it is here!!! I love when everything is green and coming alive.  My yard looks so beautiful right now.  We were outside all day mowing and cleaning, getting it ready for summer.  Picnics and cookouts are soon to come!!!

Having fun with Adam

This week we have been watching Winnie the Pooh and doing crafts about all the characters.  We've made paper bag puppets for all of them, except rabbit and piglet.  But we will be making them tomorrow :)

Adam has been having a blast making them and it is fun watching him getting excited.   He has always hated coloring and crafts, but this week that's all he wants to do!!!

Hello to all!!

What a beautiful day today has been! There is lots of snow outside but that's okay we stayed in to play. We have been busy too, I will post pictures later. I have taken Adam out of preschool and would like to do preschool learning at home with him the rest of the year. I am wondering if there is any type of homeschooling for preschoolers????? If anyone knows please help :) I am excited to spend this time with him and have cut my hours at work to be home more.

Elmer's Craft bond and X-acto products!!

     I am so excited that I got the opportunity  review.....   
                                         
         Elmer's craft bond and X-acto products!! 

      I recieved the Elmer's tape runner, Elmer's glue spots, Elmer's glue pen, and Elmer's glue stick. 

     And from X-acto I recieved 2 pair of scissors that cute the cutest edges and a corner rounder punch.

I truely love all of the products and think Elmer's is the best glue for all my crafts, I am so happy they came out with glue products that I can use for scrapbooking too.  The glue spots are easy and NO mess!  The tape runner is a scrapbookers dream ~ you can cover the edges quick and easy, then put it in place and you are done.  My son and I made a couple halloween decorations with these products:

this is a mouse my son made in a few minutes that I thought was cute.

He used the glue stick and the tape runner.

I made the parts for a chore chart to start having Adam use;

 

                                                                                                                  To make these labels I used the corner rounder punch, the tape runner, and the glue stick.  I made the pieces with my cricut.  I will do another post with the complete chore chart.

If you homeschool please help me deside????

I have my son in preschool at the moment and my sister is his teacher.  They have always been like oil and water.  But she promised that she would help him and that he would do great in her class.  Well, he has my stubborn streak in him and isn't the best listener.  So how they tell him 2 times what they want him to do and then take him by the arm there and make him do it.  Or grab his hands and make him pick up whatever they are asking him to pick up.  I am not to sure of the force or the tone of their voices, but he is now hitting them.  He has never done this in school before.  He went last year and all through the summer, then started the year out good.  Now this is happening everyday this week and I am getting texts from my sister that they aren't doing anything differently.  It just wierd that he would hit without a reason.  And she let me know that she is recommending he be tested and labeling him a behavioral problem child.  WHAT????  I kept him home today and he and I hung out.  We did arts and crafts, computer work on brainpop (which he loves) and made lunch and brownies together.  I didn't have much of a problem getting him to do whatever asked.

She also asked if I would pick him up at 1:00 from now on because at 1:15 they lay down for naptime and he doesn't nap and wants to play and read.  So he will miss naptime, snack time and free time.  Free time is his favorite time of the whole day.

I do not know what to do.  I have been looking up home schooling and cyber schools and I am at a loss and would love advise from you all.
